A Wish Come True

Wish recipient Adam Shapiro with his hero, Nick Buoniconti, and Starlight Foundation's Larry Bloustein (right to left).
Nick Buoniconti and the Miami Project made one spinal cord injured teen’s wish come true in April. Adam Shapiro, 17, of Irvine, California, received the 20,000th wish fulfilled by the Starlight Children’s Foundation – a wish to meet his hero, Buoniconti, and scientists at the forefront of spinal cord repair and regeneration research.

The Starlight Foundation has been granting wishes for severely ill kids since 1983. Shapiro’s wish was special because he expressed a determination to use his experience to also help others. The family’s visit included time with the Buonicontis, Miami Project leaders Barth Green, M.D., and W. Dalton Dietrich, Ph.D., as well as a tour and other activities.
