The Claddagh Foundation

The Claddagh Foundation's first family, Jack, Mary Kate and Joanne Callahan.
At the age of six months, Jack and Joanne Callahan’s daughter, Mary Kate, was stricken with a flu-like illness that developed into a condition known as Transverse Myelitis. Since this diagnosis was confirmed, the Callahan family of Illinois have dedicated themselves to supporting laboratory studies in regeneration of the spinal cord damaged by injury or illness.

Mary Kate’s great uncles, Jerry and Jim Callahan, formed the Claddagh Foundation specifically to secure funding for such research at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. The indomitable Callahan Family (a force of over 50) and their friends have supported research with various fund-raising events including an annual golf tournament that raises not only awareness of spinal cord injury but significant funding as well.

The Miami Project’s Capital Campaign Committee is proud to announce that the Claddagh Foundation has named the first floor Vestibule in the new home of the Miami Project, the Lois Pope LIFE Center, in honor of Mary Kate. The Miami Project salutes the Claddagh Foundation, and the Callahan family and friends for their outstanding devotion and support.
