The Lois Pope LIFE Center

The Lois Pope LIFE Center is the mainstay of the University of Miami School of Medicine's nationally and internationally recognized Neuroscience Research Programs. The Center is located in the Schoninger research quadrangle at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. The state-of-the-art facility brings together all elements of the multi-pronged assault on paralysis and other neurologic disorders, including stroke, brain trauma, and neurodegenerative diseases. It houses the school's prestigious Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

The Lois Pope LIFE Center was named to recognize the generosity and beneficence of our patron, Lois Pope. Mrs. Pope announced on November 25, 1996 that she was initiating a $10 million gift to the University of Miami. The name reflects Mrs. Pope's charitable organization, Leaders in Furthering Education (LIFE), which seeks to reward and encourage leadership skills and volunteerism in young people. It also represents Mrs. Pope's deep interest in the treatment and cure of a wide range of neurologic problems.

The goal of the Center is to stand in a fundamentally important way as a place where the neurological and spinal cord injured, as well as their families, can anchor their hopes and revitalize their dreams of a better future.
